In the spirit of the United Nations, Real Time and Space (RTS) presented a series of artist-made flags to adorn our building and parking lot. Fifteen flags for fifteen studios. We wanted to extend the spirit inside our space out into the neighborhood. I coordinated this contribution to the 2019 Terrain Biennial, which was up from October 1-November 17th, 2019. Participating artists included Colin Dixon, Kate Rhoades, Minoosh Zimorodinia, Aay Preston-Myint, Johnna Arnold, Joanne Easton, Emma Spertus, Kico le Strange, and myself. The opening featured a dazzling flag-themed performance by Kiko Le Strange.
Real Time and Space is a collective of 15 art studios located here in Oakland's Chinatown. Founded by Emma Spertus and Mark Taylor in 2011, RTS runs a residency program that supports selected local, national, and international artists to work here for a six week period, and we host public events including artist talks, open studios, and performances.
