The sculpture and video in this series pokes fun at some absurdities in US culture: individualism and the supposed “meritocracy” promised by our democratic ideals; the early training in school and sports to compete and rank (a “win” comes at the expense of another’s loss); and how we perform “winning” for each other on social media. Ultimately I’m trying to exorcise my need for validation its attendant self-surveillance.
